Because We All Deserve It.
Confidence! The biggest word that nobody thinks they have or think they can gain. You're probably right, it's VERY hard to gain confidence within yourself, with your work, family, friends, partner or hobby. I'm just going to cover my take on confidence and what it means towards a gym perspective.
Starting a gym for the first time can be really stressful, your workouts are put off by being under confident and you're constantly worried what people think. STOP IT! People aren't thinking anything about you, if i was to see a kid in the gym whos never been before I'd just be cautious of his form and make sure he was doing things right and following the gym rules. If he was to do something incorrect that could seriously harm himself or others I would step in and politely introduce myself and what I do and then advise him on the correct move. By introducing myself it doesn't sounds patronising and he would feel comfortable completing the exercise correctly afterwards. Then the next time I see him in the gym I'd obviously say hi, this along would immediately boost his confidence and he'd feel more at home.
I'm not saying go out and start snagging at every single mistake people make because we all have a different style, however its good to just be aware that people do struggle with confidence and it creates a huge problem to there training.
With people who think they're overweight or too skinny or too tall to go to the gym, just get the courage to go and show your face, once you're settled in nobody will even notice you're there. It sounds horrible to say but you get forgotten about in terms of other people noticing you. People in the gym don't care what other people look like or what they're wearing, we all share one common interest and that is fitness!
Gaining confidence with your workouts will come in time, I like using the term trial and error in fitness because it really is what works for you. If you feel better doing home workouts then stick to it as long as your results are showing then nobody can complain. Keep mixing things up until you find a perfect working routine for yourself. This goes for timings, meals, workouts everything fitness related!
I'm totally happy for you to ask any questions relating to confidence on my Questions tab. Its a very touchy subject but it stops SO MANY of you getting out and working hard.
